An Image showcasing the Academic UIL Congress team

Today some of our talented Edna Academic Cowboys and Cowgirls will showcase their skills in a challenging Congressional Debate competition. This unique event mimics the legislative process of the United States Congress, giving students a platform to propose, debate, and vote on real-world issues through simulated bills and resolutions.

During the competition, our students will demonstrate their abilities to research, analyze, and deliver speeches, as well as engage in parliamentary procedure. The competition is structured in timed sessions, where a student presides over proceedings to ensure order. Each participant presents arguments on legislative proposals, responds to questions, and engages in debates on the merits of various pieces of legislation.

Judges will evaluate students on their clarity, depth of research, argumentation, and public speaking. Top-performing students will have the opportunity to advance to a final “super congress” session, a prestigious round reserved for the best of the best.

We are incredibly proud of our Academic Cowboys and Cowgirls and wish them the best as they compete and represent Edna ISD with excellence!
